It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Starks announces his passing after sustaining injuries from a fatal car accident on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 50 years along with his girlfriend, Rosie Coffman. Doug was born on December 20, 1971, in Cincinnati, Ohio to George and Rosie Starks.
Doug attended Woodward High School in Cincinnati and Reynoldsburg High school in Reynoldsburg. He was passionate about basketball and tutoring. Doug got his Associates Degree at Sinclair College, and he was a leader in the group Kairos at North Central Correctional, often asked to lead the prayer.
Doug spent much of his life incarcerated, however he touched many lives inside and outside of those walls. He was a protector of many and always stood up for his friends. He was known as the "one hitter quitter" because one hit by him and a person would be knocked out.
Doug is preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Wilma Starks, Frank and Mary Sinkfield; his father, George Starks Jr.; and his brothers for life, Robert "base" Wilson and Deshawn "Debo" Lemon.
He will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his mother, Rosie Starks, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; brother, Jerry Starks, of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Stephanie Starks-Lovelady, of columbus, Ohio; two nieces, Arealle Spears and Charlaya Starks, of Columbus, Ohio; two nephews, Reco Spears, of North Charleston, SC and Ray Shawn Clifton Jr., of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; his special son, Douglas Mackin, of Westerville, Ohio; as well as great nieces and nephews, Braylen, Braxton, Roman, Reign, Jebrianna and Sandra.
Dougie Fresh made many friends along his journey and most of them were considered his family. He loved you all and thank you for your presence in his life. It would be too many to mention, so i'm just going to end with this:
DOGPOUND FOR LIFE!!!

I am home now four years, and many days I would have loved to have called him and said I will come down to The "Bus," and hang out with you. We would have gone to some local church. We would have worshipped and praised God for getting us through all of that. Then we would have just been sitting in amazement and gratitude as the other spoke of the great things God is doing in our lives; lives, that society says should not receive grace.

I miss him greatly. I miss his counsel. I miss his brotherly love and presence.

Doug was my older brother. My first memory was us two walking to school, I was in the 1st and he was in the 3rd grade, and we smoked a pack of my Dad's Kool Filter King cigarettes.

Doug and I shared many days together at nccc. we were coaches in the faith dorm and Ms. Lykins pets in the camp. we both were team members in Kairos and for the young guys Torch. the photos shown are of some gruff guy, but let me tell you we aren't many hours laughing and making fun of the stuff going on around us.

He was more than a brother to me. although we were coaches we spent many hours scrubbing toilets and sinks. we worked in the camp, like drill Sargent's, processing all the new guys. and days we spent in the mornings praying for those same people.

I was just remembering he and I bent over sinks washing out coffee pots, cups, and arranging flowers,
saying if our folks saw us they would say "Where are they? Prison, that don't look like no prison to me!

I don't know how I am going to live life like I use. He was such a part of my life. I will see him working by the throne!
