Doyne Wolford, 80, Kokomo, formerly of Logansport, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, in the emergency room of Howard Regional Health System, Kokomo.
Born May 29, 1944, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Earl Lehman and Dorothy Helena (Schwalm) Wolford.
A 1962 graduate of Logansport High School, Doyne worked as a soda jerk for Burk's Drug Store across the street from the school. A beautiful young lady, Barbara-Jo Marie Coleman, and her friends would go there after school for sodas. The owner noticed that Barbara-Jo had caught Doyne's eye and encouraged him to ask her for a date. The rest is history - the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 1st this year. They were married in 1964 in the Pisgah Christian Church.
In 1962, Doyne was a "Day 1" hire at the new Louisville Cement Company plant starting out as an office clerk. The plant later became known as Essroc. In 2003, he retired from his position as a plant supervisor.
Doyne was passionate about his yellow Gold Wing motorcycles - he wore out six of them. It had to pull a trailer because he always had three prized bowling balls handy - just in case he had the opportunity to bowl. Doyne and Barbara traveled to all the states in the continental United States as well as from Newfoundland and westward through Canada to enjoy the splendors of Banff in Alberta, Canada.
For many years, Doyne held the record for the highest triples score in the 844-bowling series which earned him a distinguished title in the Bowling Association Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Missouri. He also enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of NASCAR. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife Barbara-Jo Wolford, Kokomo, is daughters Kimberly (Cyril) Lapan, Kokomo, and Lisa (Rob) Kesling, Logansport; one sister, Joyce Ann Pullen, Walton; five grandchildren, Jeff (Felisha) Lapan, Jessica (Adam) Culp, Clayton Lapan, Rob Kesling, and Anna Kesling (Jon Raderstorf); five great-grandchildren, Joe Lapan, Alex Culp, Jeremy Culp, Ellie Lapan, and Ava Lapan; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Millie-2.
In addition to his parents, Doyne was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael Allen Wolford; two sisters, Carolyn Kraay and Mary Lou Cain; and several beloved canines including Millie-1 who saved his life by alerting him to a house fire in 2001.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday, December 27 at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28 in the funeral chapel with Dawn Fisher officiating.
Interment will be in the Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
