Benny Erwin, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15th, at the age of 76. Benny was born on December 25, 1948 at home in the Arkaquah region of Blairsville, GA; and was the son of the late Paul Garnet Erwin and Jessie Spiva Erwin.
He was a native of Union County and graduated in 1966 from Union County High School. In 1969, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Southern Tech. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Washington, D.C. until April 1971. Benny obtained three doctorate degrees those of which include a Doctorate of Dentistry (1980), a Doctorate in Pediatric Dentistry (1982), and a Doctorate of Orthodontics (1984). Benny found his true passion in orthodontics and made a lifelong career in the field for over 35 years.
Surviving Dr. Erwin are his two daughters and son-in-law, Nicole & Matt Queen (Morganton, GA) and Jessica Hill (Blairsville, GA). His three granddaughters are Isabella, Scarlett, and Katherine Queen. He is survived by one sister, Paulette (Gary) Hill of Griffin, GA, one brother, Lehman (Myrna) Davis of Cumming, GA, two cousins, Barbara Major of Cleveland, GA and Tom (Trippi) Penland of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 4:00 pm at the chapel of Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton & Matt Queen officiating. Prior to funeral services, a visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm. Internment will follow at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. The following loved ones will serve as pallbearers; Travis Hill, Ira Davis, Matt Queen, Paul Murphy, Tim Thomas, and Freddy Holder. Honorary pallbearers will include; Joe Dillard, Arthur Burnett, Buddy Rowan, Curtis Colwell, Gary George, Dr. Mike Worthy, Tom Little, Gerald Nelson, James Allison, Gary Hill, and WR Berry.
Benny trusted the Lord as his Savior and attended several local churches during his life. He had a kind and gentle spirit which made him easy to love. It is widely known that Benny helped countless individuals and families in times of need. He would truly give the "shirt off his back." Benny will be greatly missed by all that had the honor of knowing and loving him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Isaiah 117 House in Blairsville, Ga, in memory of Dr. Frank Benny Erwin.
