Abbeville- A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 19, 2025 at St. Paul Cemetery, honoring the life of Dr. Harold Paul Travasos, 99, who passed away on April 17, 2025 at his residence. Reverend Daniel Picard will officiate at the service.
Dr. Harold (as he was called) was a graduate of SLI (now UL at Lafayette) and received his post-graduate degree in Veterinary Medicine at Alabama Poly Technic Institute (now Auburn University). He was a veteran of Word War II and the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Dr. Harold was past president of the Rotary Club and the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce of which he was a board member for 16 years. He was chairman of the Water Resource Committee of the Abbeville Chamber of Commissioner, a Charter Commissioner of the Teche Vermilion Freshwater District and served as a commissioner for the Parish of Vermilion for 19 years. He also served as a board member and secretary-treasure of the Iberian Vermilion Soil Conservation Service. Dr. Harold was awarded the Outstanding Citizen award in 1970 by the American Legion.
Professional associations include Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau, Vermilion Parish Cattlemen Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association and Southwest Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association of which he was a past president.
Dr Travasos' grandson Sam, survives him. His wife of 75 years, Theresa and a son, Todd predeceased him.
