Gaston, North Carolina
Ms. Drucilla Garner Miles, 89, of Gaston, North Carolina, departed this earthly life on December 13, 2025, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Drucilla Miles, who lived such a fulfilling life, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and cherished matriarch whose life was marked by love, service, and unwavering generosity to her family and all the lives she touched.
Her life came to a gentle close, surrounded by the legacy of family and community she so faithfully nurtured.
Drucilla was born on August 20, 1936, to the late Jessie and Iris Garner. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Junious Miles, and together they shared many years of love, devotion, and companionship.
She was baptized and gave her life to Christ at a young age, remaining a faithful member of Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church, where she found joy, fellowship, and spiritual grounding throughout her life.
She received her formal education through Northampton County Public Schools and dedicated many years of faithful service working at JP Stevens, where she remained employed until her retirement. Even after retiring, her desire to serve others never waned. Driven by a lifelong love for helping people, she returned to school at Halifax Community College, where she earned her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Through this calling, she continued to pour care and compassion into the lives of others, later serving at Weldon Daycare and the Adult Day Care Center. In every role she held, she worked with patience, kindness, and dignity; leaving a lasting impression on all those she cared for. Her work was never just a job; it was an extension of her heart and her commitment to serving others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Junious Miles; her beloved daughter, Jessie Miles; and her cherished siblings-Herbert Garner, Gwendolyn High, and Mattie Scott-who welcomed her into eternal rest.
Drucilla was known for her nurturing spirit and her ability to make everyone feel cared for. She found joy in sewing, patching, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and faithfully attending church. In the quiet of midday, she devoted time to Bible study-grounding herself in faith and prayer and living out those lessons through service to others. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and love, famous for her chocolate éclairs, warm banana pudding, and homemade preserves made from fruit she harvested herself.
She was the kind of woman who fed the neighborhood children, took the kids "to town," treated the family to K&W after church, and made unforgettable memories at White Lake. Her generosity was legendary-whether it was sharing food, time, or that unforgettable moment when she made sure everyone had a little something as a Christmas gift; a quiet, consistent act of love that spoke volumes about who she was.
Drucilla was lovingly cared for by her son, Clarence, her granddaughter, Krystal Murrell, who held a special place in her heart, Doretha Webb, and Kevin Wood, whose compassion and dedication brought comfort during her time of need.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted son: Clarence Garner; her cherished grandchildren: Rachel Boone (James), James Garner (Boutaina), Kasharne Garner, Tiffany Greene (Micah), Brittany Jordan (Jim), Krystal Murrell (Kevin), and Deborah Ingram (Sam); and her beloved great-grandchildren: Marques, Katilann, Ilyas, Asiya, Caleb, Harley, and Hunter. She also leaves her dear sister: Notis Holt; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; all of whom were deeply blessed and touched by her love and presence.
Drucilla's home and heart were always open, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in every life she touched, every tradition she passed down, and every memory held close to the heart.
