Walter Duane Byrd, 68, of Hubbard, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025 in a Waco hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Ricky Woodall officiating.
Duane was born March 31, 1957 in Grand Prairie to Walter and Dollie (Jackson) Bryd. He was raised in Grand Prairie and was a graduate of South Grand Prairie High School. Duane married Tammy Bates in Grand Prairie on May 12, 1984 and they made their home there until moving to Hubbard in 1991. Until his recent retirement, he worked as a truck driver making local deliveries for ABF Freight Company in Waco. Duane enjoyed watching his two sons play sports for Hubbard High School and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Aaron Byrd and a sister, Debbie (Byrd) Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Tammy Byrd of Hubbard; son, Justin Byrd and wife, Morgan of Corbet; three sisters, Angie Maples and husband, Donald of Hubbard, Melissa Montgomery and husband, Carl of Whitney and Dana Hawthorne of Hubbard; six grandchildren, Kennedee Leeann Byrd, Melody Michell Byrd, Drea Byrd and Ayloi Josephine Byrd, all of Corbet and Nolan Duane Byrd and Ryan Byrd, both of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews including Jeff Smith and wife, Kylie of Boring, Oregon, Yolanda Lewis and husband, John of Blooming Grove and Traie Maples and wife, Heather of Mount Calm and numerous other extended family members.
