BROOKFIELD - Duane Burton Chambers of Brookfield Vermont, unexpectedly passed away in the early morning of September 19th 2025, with his wife Linda by his side.
Duane was born in Morrisville Vt on November 1st, 1947. His parents, the late Burton and Mary Chambers were from an active generational farm family. Duane, being the first born, was working the farm at an early age. In the early 1970's the family moved to Williamstown Vt where he proudly started a farm of his own and continued the tradition with dedication and care.
Duane and Linda Davis married on August 1st, 1987, at the Hedding Methodist Church in Barre Vt. Together they built a life rooted in love, hard work and family. They welcomed two sons, Christopher and Schuyler. Duane was a hard working and devoted family man. His highest priority was taking care of those closest to him. Duane's tireless energy and generosity, whether working on race cars with his best friend Ed Orton or rescuing his sister-in-law Corny, while broke down on the side of the road.
Schuyler, being close to his dad, would be sure to call every morning to check in for the day, even when he went away to college. When his dad was in need of technical support, Schuyler promptly showed up, fixed the issue and often would take time to spend with his father. They enjoyed taking rides together, once they headed for Niagara Falls on a whim. Duane was Schuyler's number one golfing fan. Haven Pierce, Schuyler's partner, was Duane's adopted personal vet assistant.
Duane had a lifelong passion for racing. He spent countless hours in the garage, turning wrenches and sharing stories, and helping Christopher and April with the race cars. Whether it was late nights prepping for race day or standing proudly at the track, Duane was always there, hands-on and heart full, ready to lend his support. Racing wasn't just a hobby; it was a way for Duane to connect deeply with his son and the community he loved. His enthusiasm and mechanical skill made him a trusted presence in the pits and a beloved figure among fellow racers.
After a tough crash, most people believed the car was beyond repair, but they didn't have Duane in their corner. He rolled up his sleeves, studied every inch of the damage, and slowly brought the car back to life-piece by piece, bolt by bolt. His determination and mechanical know-how turned what seemed impossible into a triumphant return to the track. He always found a way. Whether it was a broken part, a tight deadline, or a discouraged heart, Duane met every challenge with quiet confidence and a can-do spirit. His garage was more than a workspace; it was a place where problems were solved, dreams were rebuilt, and love was poured into every turn of the wrench.
Duane had a strong build and quiet demeanor, who continued to rise up at 5 o'clock every day and began the day with a long list of projects that only he understood. Whether it was cutting a load of logs to build a garage, fix a culvert on the road, or to rebuild a salvage vehicle for a family or friend in need. Known as a farmer at heart, his skill set included electrical, plumbing, welding, car painting, sandblasting, carpentry, heavy equipment repairs, mechanics and the list goes on. Duane could figure out how to fix something from nothing and did this in a meticulous and careful manner until the job was done.
Duane created a network of roads on his 40+ acres of land to ensure that the Maple sugaring operation would go smoothly when the season hit. He knew every inch of his land and surveyed the land daily for maintenance needs, care of the trees, and evidence of wildlife lurking about. Each day he would walk in the woods with his beloved dogs Riley or Lila in tow. Later in the day he would drive his side-by-side to review the property again. If you were nearby, he would ask you if you wanted to ride along. The grandchildren remember these adventures with fond memories.
Duane was a devoted grandfather to Andrea St. Amour, Sophie Chambers, and Payton Chambers. He celebrated their accomplishments with joy and encouragement, always showing up with a smile and a story. Whether it was school events, sports, or simply spending time together, Duane made sure his granddaughters knew how deeply they were loved. He believed in their potential and supported them in every way he could. Duane is survived by his beloved wife Linda Chambers; his sister Sharlene Pratt; his brother Elwin Chambers; his sons Christopher, his wife April, and Schuyler; and his granddaughters. Duane, Linda and her sister Corinne, enjoyed countless hours together, doing outdoor projects, going out to dinner and laughter-filled evenings watching movies.
A private burial ceremony was held at Elmwood Cemetery with close family and friends. There will be no calling hours.
The service will be held at the Hedding Methodist Church in Barre Vt on November 15th, 2025, at 11:00 am.
Arrangements are in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St. in Barre.
