Duane M. O'Donnell, age 53, of Billerica, formerly of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of deep love, kindness, humor, and quiet strength.

Born on December 29, 1971, in London, England, Duane was the son of Sheilah (Winstone) O'Donnell and the late Martin O'Donnell. He spent his early years in Ireland, where his gentle heart and sharp wit began to take shape. At the age of 15, Duane moved with his family to Eastchester, New York, where he continued his education and began building a life rooted in compassion, hard work, and dedication.

While in New York, Duane met Maria Giovanna - the love of his life - while she was attending college. From the moment they met, their bond was unmistakable. It was an act of kindness that drew Maria to Duane, and from that day forward, they were inseparable. They were married on May 29, 1999, and soon began building a home filled with laughter, love, and family. After a short time in Watertown, they settled in Wilmington, where they raised their two children, Michael and Sara. In 2018, they moved to Billerica, where Duane found joy in welcoming friends and loved ones into their home for holidays, celebrations or just because.

Duane was, above all, a devoted husband and a proud, deeply loving father. He was Michael's best friend and greatest supporter, and he wore his pride for Sara's accomplishments-especially her college years-on his sleeve (often quite literally, in the form of his IU shirts). His family was his heart.

A talented carpenter, Duane worked with Pegasus Design-to-Build, where his craftsmanship and creativity left a lasting mark, especially in the kitchen cabinetry he installed. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built with his colleagues and clients.

Duane had a generous soul and was always ready to lend a hand. He devoted countless hours to the Boy Scouts in Wilmington, helping to complete projects that benefited the greater community. Duane was also a dedicated "dance dad," always present with unwavering support and quiet enthusiasm. He took great joy in being there for Sara and the dance community that meant so much to her.

Those who knew Duane will remember his warm embrace, his calm presence, his sharp wit and his unwavering dedication to the people he loved. He leaves behind not only the memories of a life well-lived, but the example of a life well-loved.

Duane was the beloved husband of Maria Giovanna (Romei) O'Donnell, and the devoted father of Michael Patrick O'Donnell and Sara Maria O'Donnell, all of Billerica. He was the brother of Dean O'Donnell of CT, David O'Donnell of Ireland, and Amy Elliott and her husband Joshua of CT. He was the loving son-in-law of Margaret Romei and the late Giovanni Romei, and a dear brother-in-law to Andrea & Greg Ryan of Reading, Pasquale Romei, and Daniella Romei, both of Watertown. Duane was a treasured uncle to Grace & Zac Ryan, Bianca Romei, Emma O'Donnell, Kodi & Aidyn O'Donnell, and Cormac, Cian, Devyn, Carter, and Tygh Elliott. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, July 21st at 9:30 a.m., immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dorothy's Church, Main Street (Rte. 38), Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, July 20th, from 4:00–7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the O'Donnell family kindly asks that you honor Duane's memory by offering an act of kindness to someone in need-a gesture that would have meant the world to him.
