Duane Prue Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A.W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax on Jan. 16, 2026.
Duane Louis Prue passed away on January 13, 2026 at Dartmouth Hospital. Duane was born on February 12, 1957 in Newport, Vermont. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Marilyn Perron Prue. Duane attended Lake Region Union High school. Duane lived in Barton all his life, near the home he grew up in.

Duane was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Lena Prue, his mother and father in law, Armand and Barbara Perron, special nephew Joel Bruce Perron, and his dog Queenie who saved his life many years ago.

He leaves behind his sisters, Marie Coons and husband Norman, Karen Allen, his brothers Regionald Prue and wife Pam, Louis Prue and Tim Duffy. His in-laws, Judy and Doug Conley, Doris Perron and Bruce and Laurie Perron. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Duane and Marilyn had no children however, the pets that they shared a life with were considered family.

Duane worked as an electrician for many years. He worked for Weldmann Electrical Technology and retired from Cabot Creamery in 2019. Duane was the handyman for many in the family.

In 2019 when his mother became very sick, you could find him at her place everyday giving her love and support.

Duane made sure Marilyn was well taken care of always. Marilyn still works full-time and was able to do so as Duane took care of everything at home. Marilyn always had a safe, warm, loving home to come home to. When she came home he would always say, "Is that my Woman?" and she would always answer "Yes, always."

Duane loved animals, playing cards, video games, hunting (in November he got an 8 point buck!) fishing, playing ice hockey, feeding the birds and taking care of the lawn and yard. Duane was known for his laugh and joking around. He had no filter (good or bad) and you always knew what he was thinking.

For the last 45 years Duane and Marilyn look forward to perch fishing in the spring. Duane would dig the worms and they were off. Marilyn would put her worm on the hook but would not take the perch off the hook, help clean the fish or eat the fish. Duane was busy if the fish were biting.

Special thanks to his brother Reggie and Marilyn's family and friends for all their support.

There will be no services.

Donations can be sent to Orleans Emergency Unit, 1 Memorial Square, Orleans, VT 05860.

Life is short, so go fishing in the spring!
