Duane Vogel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Glen Haven Chapel on Feb. 3, 2023.
Duane Clarence Vogel, 87, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus his Savior after a battle with cancer on February 1st, surrounded by his family, in Fridley, MN.
Duane was born to Edwin & Emma (Strehler, Jeske) Vogel on April 19, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Minneapolis North High School. On October 22, 1955, he married Laverne "Busy" Gabrielson. They later had two children, Tim & Becki. After the death of his sister Marvyl, they adopted her son, Steve Hoffman. Duane worked at George A. Clark & Son, and Hennepin County Medical Center. Busy passed away just after their 40th anniversary in 1995.
On July 10, 2004, Duane married Marilyn Peterson (Moe, Castro). Together they served the Lord, their church, & their families faithfully for 18+ years.
Duane had a great sense of humor and was a friend to many. His laughter and gentle teasing made people feel at home in his presence. He enjoyed bowling, vacationing at the lake, fishing, eating out, and was an avid fan of Minnesota sports. He especially loved watching the Twins, Vikings, and Timberwolves, and high school hockey. He was a true Minnesota fan, but also in touch with reality - "there's always next year." He loved his family and friends. And in turn was loved and respected by many. Above all, he loved and served his Lord Jesus Christ. He was active and supportive of the ministries of the two churches he attended: Russell Avenue Church of the Nazarene (1935-1992), and Together Place Church of the Nazarene (1992-2023).
Duane is survived by his wife Marilyn Vogel, his son Tim (Jeanie) Vogel, daughter Becki (Doran) Kelvington, son Steve (Jeanna) Hoffman, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 step children - John ( Lynn) Moe, Joe (Karen) Moe, Jeff Moe, James Castro, Jina (Tom) Niederer, 5 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife LaVerne "Busy" Vogel, his wife Delora Putnam Vogel, his siblings Glayde Jeske, Verna Brickson, Bob Jeske, Dale Jeske, Marvyl Hoffman, and Bill Vogel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 at Transform Church (Formerly Prairie Oak Community Church) in Andover, MN (1657 161st. Ave. NW). In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Together Place Church.

Condolences to Duane´s family and friends. I cherish to time we spent together when he cared for my mother through good times and sad as she battled cancer.

I'm sorry for your family's loss. Duane was a very nice neighbor in Robbinsdale and was a great dad.

The first memory about Duane that comes to my mind was over 30 years ago. We were attending Russell Avenue Church. One summer during a neighborhood outreach we were giving out bottled water and playing the game "egg toss." Duane grabbed a couple of eggs and looked at me with a devilish look in his eyes. He started after me and before I could run away he smashed two raw eggs on my head and all over my hair. I was not happy! I grabbed an egg and went after him but I don´t remember connecting with my egg. I will never forget how surprised I was that he actually smashed eggs all over my hair. I was not happy! When I asked Pat what he thought my memory about Duane might be he knew immediately that it was the egg incident. Duane was a lot of fun to be around and was quite the prankster!

I will miss him!
