Dusty Litster Obituary

Dusty Garrett Litster returned to his heavenly home on September 3, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 5, 1983, in Price, Utah, to Douglas and Diana Colette Litster. From the beginning, Dusty was full of life—blessed with charisma, humor, and a gift for connecting with others. Known as the “family pet,” the class clown, and a friend to nearly everyone he met, Dusty brought joy and laughter wherever he went.

Sports were his passion from an early age. Whether holding a ball, playing in the yard, or calling his own games, Dusty’s love of athletics was evident. School was his stage—not always for academics, but for pranks, jokes, and a personality larger than life. Teachers and classmates alike remember his charm and energy, even if some needed a little extra convincing to fall under his spell. Dusty graduated from Carbon High School in 2002.

From February 2003 to February 2005, Dusty served faithfully in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission. His time there was among the most meaningful of his life. He treasured the people he met, his service as assistant to President Fillmore, and the opportunities he had to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and teach others about the plan of salvation.

Following his mission, Dusty found his calling in high school sports broadcasting. What began as covering games grew into a 20-year partnership and cherished friendship with Dane Stewart and Vynce Francis. Together, they worked with Comcast, Xfinity, Deseret News, and ultimately KSLsports.com. Known as “the voice of Utah high school sports,” Dusty considered it a privilege—not just a job—to tell the stories of young athletes. He took pride in shining a spotlight on players whose Friday night moments would become lifelong memories. While sports were a deep passion, Dusty also worked in a variety of sales roles over the years to support his family.

On July 19, 2010, Dusty married the love of his life, Megan Jean Larsen, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a life filled with faith, humor, and devotion. Their greatest joy came inraising their four children: Reagan Diana, McKinley Rose, Staley Jean, and Detmer Garrett. For Dusty, no sports highlight could ever compare to being a husband and father.

In the final 18 months of his life, Dusty courageously battled Glioblastoma. Upon receiving his diagnosis, he said, “It’s scary to think that there could be cancer in my brain—that freaks me out. But also, as I’ve shared with my kids, if there is anything I’m down for, it’s a fight. I want to show my kids how we fight through adversity—I’m not excited for it, but I’m willing to take it on.” Though the news was heartbreaking, Dusty faced it with strength, humor, and determination. With Megan steadfastly by his side, and the love of family, friends, and an entire community surrounding him, he lived each day fully and faithfully.

Dusty is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Diana Colette Litster. He is survived by his wife, Megan; their four children, Reagan, McKinley, Staley, and Detmer; his father, Douglas L. Litster; his in-laws, Paul and Shelley Larsen; and his siblings: Colette Litster, Deek (Stay) Litster, Rory (Heidi) Litster, Kortni Litster, Tanna (Trevor) Didericksen, and Becca (Joe) Jacobs.

Dusty will be remembered for his laughter, his voice, his faith, and the love he gave so freely to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Dusty’s children at KeyBank Account Number 448626842943 or Venmo @meganlitster87
