Dwayne Crozier passed away peacefully at his home on July 26, 2025. Born on March 30, 1945, in Pleasantville, Iowa, Dwayne devoted his life to shaping the lives of others through his love of sports, family, and hard work.
Dwayne began his teaching and coaching career in Winterset. He went on to coach at Tech and North High Schools in Des Moines and later served as Athletic Director at North. A gifted athlete in his own right, Dwayne spent time with NFL's Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings, played for the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers, earned accolades as a Golden Gloves boxing champion, earned the title of state champion in the football throw, and was on the All-Centennial team at Morningside College. Outside of sports, he found joy and purpose in farming and raising horses.
To those who knew him, Dwayne-affectionately known as Coach and HD-was so much more than his achievements. He embodied strength, kindness, and loyalty, always ready to help and encourage others. He could do just about anything-and made others believe they could too.
Dwayne is survived by his children: Curtis Crozier and his wife Julie, and Lisa Crozier Lepley; grandchildren Piper, Cate, Quinn, and Hunter; brother Richard Crozier and his wife Barbara; along with his nephew, nieces, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Eliza Crozier; his brother Jimmy; sister Donna; and nephew Ricky.
