LTC (Ret.) Dwayne Alexander Lacewell resident of Charleston WV went home to be with Jesus on August 10, 2025, leaving behind a loving family and host of friends.
Born on December 22, 1959, to Ernest Lacewell and Loretta Smith Lacewell, Dwayne was raised by a loving, supportive family. He graduated from Scotch Plains Fanwood High School in 1977 and went on to earn a degree in Political Science from Virginia State University in 1981. His time at VSU shaped lifelong friendships and a commitment to leadership that would define his career. He was a member of The Esquire XIII Fraternity, Inc.
Following graduation, Dwayne answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army as an Engineer. Over the course of 22 years, he rose through the ranks with honor and distinction, retiring in 2003 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military service was marked by his steadfast commitment to serve his country.
Dwayne loved his family and friends. He is survived by his loving father, Ernest Lacewell; his children Alexander Dwayne Lacewell (Brandie Howard), Aaron Raavon Ford, Simone Alexandra Lacewell and Leila Hicks-Bey; and his granddaughter, Aliyana Lacewell. He also leaves behind his sisters, Sherri Lacewell Johnson (Ronell) and Kimberly Lacewell Bennett; nephews Brandon Johnson (Jess), Brock Bennett, and Chad Bennett; and great-nephew Caleb Johnson. Dwayne's extended family includes uncles Marvin Lacewell (Cozie), Dennis Smith (Cheryl), and Greg Smith; aunts Geraldine McKoy (Foster), Harriett Lacewell, and Deborah Smith (Barry); and his lifetime love, LTC (Ret.) Monica Lee Lacewell. He was also blessed with a sister of the heart, Jodi Byers, and the enduring brotherhood of the Esquire Social Fraternity.
He will be deeply missed by a host of Virginia State University alumni, New Jersey neighbors, lifelong friends, and his loving family, all of whom were touched by his presence in their lives. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm Saturday, August 23rd., at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Homes. A repast and family gathering will be held immediately after the service.
