In Loving Memory of LTC (Ret.) Dwayne Alexander Lacewell

LTC (Ret.) Dwayne Alexander Lacewell resident of Charleston WV went home to be with Jesus

on August 10, 2025, leaving behind a loving family and host of friends.

Born on December 22, 1959, to Ernest Lacewell and Loretta Smith Lacewell, Dwayne was raised

by a loving, supportive family. He graduated from Scotch Plains Fanwood High School in 1977

and went on to earn a degree in Political Science from Virginia State University in 1981. His time

at VSU shaped lifelong friendships and a commitment to leadership that would define his

career. He was a member of The Esquire XIII Fraternity, Inc.

Following graduation, Dwayne answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States

Army as an Engineer. Over the course of 22 years, he rose through the ranks with honor and

distinction, retiring in 2003 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military service was marked by his

steadfast commitment to serve his country.

Dwayne loved his family and friends. He is survived by his loving father, Ernest Lacewell; his

children Alexander Dwayne Lacewell (Brandie Howard), Aaron Raavon Ford, Simone Alexandra

Lacewell and Leila Hicks-Bey; and his granddaughter, Aliyana Lacewell. He also leaves behind

his sisters, Sherri Lacewell Johnson (Ronell) and Kimberly Lacewell Bennett; nephews Brandon

Johnson (Jess), Brock Bennett, and Chad Bennett; and great-nephew Caleb Johnson.

Dwayne's extended family includes uncles Marvin Lacewell (Cozie), Dennis Smith (Cheryl), and

Greg Smith; aunts Geraldine McKoy (Foster), Harriett Lacewell, and Deborah Smith (Barry); and

his lifetime love, LTC (Ret.) Monica Lee Lacewell. He was also blessed with a sister of the heart,

Jodi Byers, and the enduring brotherhood of the Esquire Social Fraternity.

He will be deeply missed by a host of Virginia State University alumni, New Jersey neighbors,

lifelong friends, and his loving family, all of whom were touched by his presence in their lives.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
