Dwayne James Petersen, age 46, left us much too soon on December 5, 2025 in Tridell, Utah. He was born on January 16, 1979 in Cedar City, Utah, the youngest of two sons born to Dwayne Reed and Jolene Johnson Petersen. He grew up in Deseret, Utah and attended Delta High School. As a young man, he enjoyed spending his time riding motorcycles; and when he left school, he got a job working at the Ruth Mine in Ely, Nevada as a mechanic. After a few years, he returned to Deseret and worked for a number of local dairies. During this time he met, Barbara Kooken, and she would spend many wonderful years together with him as his companion. In 2017, he left the Delta area to work in the oil fields of around Roosevelt, Utah. He was a dedicated and hard worker, working as a mechanic and truck driver in the operation.
James loved getting outdoors and riding his Harley motorcycle. He enjoyed rock hounding in the desert and mountains and found many treasures to add to his collection. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, and loved to watch old Western Movies - a passion he shared with his father. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family. James was a devoted father to his beloved daughter, Leecie. She was always a bright star in his life. James was a big man with a soft heart. He had a generous spirit toward those he cared about, and the hole left by his sudden and unexpected passing is deeply felt by those he leaves behind.
James is survived by his daughter; Leecie; companion: Barbara Kooken, Tridell, Utah; parents: Dwayne and Jolene Petersen, Delta; brother: Kirby (Marilyn) Petersen, Payson, Utah.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, at 11:00AM, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel, 190 South Center St, Delta. A Viewing will be held, 10:00-10:40AM, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Oasis Cemetery.
