Gary Webb, age 88, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in Hyde Park, Utah. He was born March 27, 1937, at their family home in Hinckley, Utah. He was the ninth child born to Leslie and Nellie Webb with the children named alphabetically from A to H. A couple of the children did not survive at birth. Gary was raised on a farm in a two-room home.
Gary learned to work hard at a young age. He loved animals, especially horses which he spent a lot of time with doing farm work. Gary's personal history turned out to be a history of every horse he had owned. He enjoyed roping and bull riding in the rodeos around the area. Gary learned to listen to the spirit of the Holy Ghost when a horse went down and rolled on top of him. He was inspired to completely relax and wasn't hurt.
Gary graduated from Delta High School in 1955 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years. After spending time abroad, he spent most of his service in the personnel office in Long Beach, California. He advanced to the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer before he was released from the Navy in 1959. While in the Navy he had the unusual experience of being an escort for the Miss Universe Pageant.
He married Evelyn Kay Skeem in Oasis, Utah, on August 24, 1957 while on leave from the Navy. She joined him in Long Beach, California to make their first home together. Gary and Evelyn were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 18, 1962 and had their three children sealed to them. Three more children followed for a total of six. The family moved to Spanish Fork and lived there for 58 years. Eventually, Gary and Evelyn moved to Cache Valley to be closer to family. They were married for 68 years.
Gary's career was working for Equifax Credit Bureau out of
Provo, Utah. Gary didn't like being retired so he got a job at Neways International managing a warehouse and worked for a few more years.
Gary was always proud of his children. He taught them the benefits of hard work. His motto was, "If you're going to do a job, you may as well do it right the first time." Gary was always very orderly. Everything went in a certain spot, cords were always wound up, and things were kept clean. He never left tools out or laid them around carelessly and never procrastinated when a job needed to be done. He assisted his dad on the Hinckley farm as long as his father lived. He was strong from hard work and was known for his extra strong grip. He selflessly helped others. He was a great support to family, always seeing what needed to be done; taking down quilting frames, assisting kids with home improvement projects, clean-up, hauling things away, and seeing the job through to the end.
Gary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His church service included many years as financial clerk, youth basketball coach, bishopric member, High Priest Group Leader, temple veil worker, and attending the temple regularly.
Gary was a quiet, patient man with a soft chuckle. He never lost his temper or yelled. He loved to tease Evelyn and his kids. He loved watching his kids and later his grandkids play baseball and other sports and attended every game possible. He and Evelyn have a large posterity of 125; 26 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, and still counting.
He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling with a group from Delta and enjoyed a few trips with family; church history sites and a cruise with their married kids. Many memories were made camping with the family. They camped at the Maple Grove Campground every year for over 50 years.
Gary is survived by his wife Evelyn Kay Skeem Webb, Hyde Park, Utah; Vicki (Gary) Judkins, Layton, Utah; Russell (Liz) Webb, Delta, Utah; Jody (Darlene) Webb, Delta, Utah; Cindy (Gary) Larsen, Hyde Park, Utah; Gail Mattinson, North Logan, Utah; Linda (Robert) Burt, North Logan, Utah.
