Dwayne David Smith, 70, passed away peacefully in
Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, surrounded by love, leaving behind family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A native of Forest Hill, West Virginia, Dwayne was the beloved son of the late Walter and Ruth Smith. He attended Marshall University, where he developed a lifelong love for Marshall athletics, an enthusiasm that remained a joyful and defining part of his life.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Dwayne loved God and lived his life guided by that faith, finding strength, comfort, and purpose in his relationship with the Lord.
Dwayne was an avid golfer who found both joy and peace on the course. He was also a devoted sports fan, proudly supporting Marshall University athletics and faithfully cheering on the Carolina Panthers. A talented piano player, he loved music and found great happiness in sharing it, often sitting down to play for anyone who would listen.
Dwayne enjoyed a 30-year career as a District Manager, primarily with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. During those years, he formed meaningful relationships with countless colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends he treasured deeply.
Above all, Dwayne cherished his family. He shared a loving and meaningful partnership with Margaret McAskill, whose companionship brought him great happiness. He was a proud and devoted father to his daughters, Britney Mason (Matt) and Charity Pauley (Jim), and he took immense pride in the lives they built.
After retiring, Dwayne chose to make
Greenville, South Carolina his home so he could be closer to his grandchildren and fully present for their everyday moments and milestones. He looked forward to traveling, creating new memories, and spending time surrounded by the people he loved most.
He was lovingly known as "DD" to his grandchildren, Sullivan and Shepard Mason, and Olivia Pauley, who were among his greatest blessings, filling his days with joy, laughter, and unconditional love.
Those who knew Dwayne will remember his strong faith, steadfast loyalty, and wonderfully silly sense of humor that could light up any room. While he will be missed more than words can express, his family finds peace and comfort in knowing that he is now at rest and joyfully reunited with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." John 16:22
