Dwayne S. "Chief" Wenger, 63, of Wooster, died Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Smithville-Western Care Center following a period of declining health.
He was born October 4, 1958 in Wooster to the late Earl G. and Marion (Schrock) Wenger and has lived in Smithville and Wooster all of his life.
Dwayne graduated from Smithville High School in the class of 1977. He was employed by Thompson Memorials (formerly Chapman) as a master engraver for many years. He enjoyed tinkering around his house, his cats, pottery and was mechanically gifted; he could tear apart and fix anything.
Dwayne spent many years with his life partner, Evonne Crosky until her passing and then married Brenda Hartman in 2011. He loved life and having a good time and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. One week prior to his passing he accepted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, into his life. He joins his parents and siblings in heaven.
Surviving are brothers, Eugene (Nonya) Wenger and Jerry Wenger; sisters, Bert (Larry) Nitzsche, Helen (John) Miller, Juanita (Buzz) Maxwell, Jolene (Bruce) Buss and Wanda (Ronald) Hebb; step-sisters, Tina Rudy, Paula Rudy-Brown and Jillayne Jordan; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randy Wenger; sister, Shirley Felicjan; and step-mother, Lois Wenger.
Friends and family may call from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 9 at Auble Funeral Home, 512 E. Oak St., Orrville, with a short service to follow at 8:30 with Pastor John Miller officiating.
