Dwight Blackburn was born on August 17, 1964 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Betty Garrett-Blackburn and Leroy Blackburn. He joined Winan United Methodist Church at a young age. He later joined Wesley Ray United Methodist Church.
He attended Franklinton High School and later joined the National Guard and was active from 1982 to 1986. As an adult he worked various jobs such as home health, EMT, heavy equipment operator, and correctional officer/security.
He was married to Easter Michelle Jefferson. To this union, two children were born, Nicholas Blackburn (New Orleans, LA) and Katera Blackburn (Houston, TX).
In addition to his children, he leaves to cherish his memories one brother, Keith Garrett (Franklinton, LA), six sisters, Debra Bickham (Houston, TX), Paula Bozumor (Houston, TX), Betty G. Kennedy (Jackson, MS), Stacey (Rodney) Warren (Franklinton, LA), Deidre (Raynelle) Lennix (Laplace, LA), and Veronica (Lonnie) Hart. Three aunts, Catherine Brown (New Orleans), Ella Rose Brookins (Jacksonville, FL), and Elizabeth Garrett (Jacksonville, FL), and one uncle, Jerry (Mary) Garrett (Fort Worth, TX). Two goddaughters, Layla Sterling and Imani Jefferson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father.
There will be a drive through on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 12:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will be held at the Southeast Veteran Cemetery in Slidell, LA. Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
