Dwight Lowrance "Larry" Crowell III

Dwight Lowrance “Larry” Crowell, III, 76, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Born December 15, 1949, in Salisbury, NC, he was the son of the late Jimmy and Vanda Crowell.

He graduated from Boyden High School in 1968. After receiving a degree in history from Davidson College in 1972, he graduated with his Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University in 1975. Larry practiced family law and was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association for 50 years. He was an active member of the community, serving in many roles in his church and with civic organizations. He enjoyed planning epic family trips and found great joy in attending his children's and grandchildren's activities.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Betsy Shaw Crowell; his daughters, Elizabeth Crowell of Apex, NC, Emily Weddington (Kurt) of China Grove, NC, and Ellen Poland (Stuart) of Wilson, NC; sister, Jean Christy of Greensboro, NC; and his grandchildren Eva, Ella and Coy Weddington and Justin, Henry and Margaret Poland as well as many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1st, at 1:00 PM at Summersett Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel, with the Reverend Doctor Tim Catlett and the Reverend Doctor Jason Harvey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292, First United Methodist Church, 217 S Church St, Salisbury, NC 28144, or a charity of your choosing.
