Ernest George (George) Dorer passed away suddenly Oct. 29, 2025, at his residence. George was born Dec. 13, 1942, in Newark, NJ, to Howard and Hilda Dorer and was a 47-year resident of Canal Fulton.
George is survived and already missed by his children Debora (Doug) Miller of King George, Va.; George M. (Lori) Dorer of Cincinnati, OH; and Christopher George (Emily) Dorer of Midlothian, Va. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his five grandchildren whom he was so proud of: Nicholas George Dorer and Olivia Dorer of Cincinnati, Evelyn Dorer and Thomas George Dorer of Midlothian, and Eva Miller of King George. George is survived by his older brother Peter and wife Barbara of Winston-Salem, NC, along with two nephews and a niece and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Carole (Sue) Dorer; his sister Hester Dorer; and niece Alison Dorer.
George graduated in 1964 from Moravian College (now Moravian University) in Bethlehem, Pa., and went on to complete a 40+ year successful career in industrial equipment sales with such companies as John Deere, C.D. Parsons, Allis Chalmers, Baker Forklifts and TCM, from which he retired in 2008. George was a road warrior, with his career journey moving the family from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, Vermont, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and finally to Ohio and Canal Fulton.
George was a member of the Canal Fulton United Methodist Church and the Canal Fulton Community Players, serving on the stage crew and also performing in their productions. He was an avid reader and looked forward to pouring over the newspaper, which he still had delivered every day, to check his stocks and catch up on the latest world events. A highlight was completing the word jumble along with the crossword and then calling his children to check the answers. George was relentless when it came to Parcheesi and his grandchildren looked forward to playing when he visited. He loved traveling, visiting Europe and cruising to such destinations as Alaska. George will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to efficiency in every aspect of his life, his kindness and compassion for others and his love for family above all else.
No words can express how grateful we are to George's neighbors, Lee and Connie Westfall, who were there always for George and for us on the night of his passing. A heartfelt thank you to Lawrence Township Emergency Services and Officer Garrett Fleming for their kindness and support.
A Memorial Service for George will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Canal Fulton United Methodist Church, 363 W. Cherry Street, Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614, with visitation immediately preceding from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Following the service a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations are recommended to the Canal Fulton United Methodist Church.
