E. David Mathieu

E. David Mathieu, Jr., age 68 of Bethlehem/Wheeling, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born September 26, 1957, in Wheeling, WV son of the late Edmund and Marjorie Pearl Mathieu.

Dave was a 1975 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School, received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from West Liberty State College and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University. He was past treasurer and served on the board for Wheeling Post #1 American Legion Athletic Club, past board chair for Wheeling Health Right, past chairman of the Marketing Committee for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley, and a two- term school board member for the Ohio County Board of Education.

Dave was one of the founders and a board member of Main Street Bank, where he served on the Board of Directors since 2000. He was a coach with Elm Grove Baseball as well as Bethlehem Girls Softball. He held multiple executive positions at the Health Plan throughout a career that spanned over 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, of 20 years, Jill Fritz Mathieu; son: Jonathan (Ashley Bunnell) Mathieu of Pittsburgh; daughter: Amy (Katie Melson) Mathieu of Pittsburgh; step-son: Steven Moore of Wheeling; step-daughter: Madison (Chadd) Robrecht of Wheeling; brother: Mike (Lori) Mathieu of Bethlehem; two sisters: Marjorie Mathieu of St. Simon Island, GA and Michelle Mathieu of Columbus, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 5- 8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 11:00am with Jonathan Mathieu officiating.

Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Liza's Place for the exceptional care given to Dave and the family over these past few weeks.
