Edith Louise (nee Miklacic) Shaffer, 74, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 at UH-Geauga Medical Center after an extended illness.
Louise was born in Rock Creek, Ohio on September 5, 1950 the daughter of Michael and Edith Violet (nee Lowe) Miklacic. She attended Rock Creek Elementary and was a 1968 graduate of Jefferson Area High School. Louise went on to study at Hiram College and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Elementary Education. A devoted educator, Louise taught for many years in the Grand Valley School District. Upon retirement she was happily engaged in spending time with her grandchildren taking many short trips with them to amusement parks and to historical sites in Ohio. An avid seamstress, she was a fixture at the Conversation Station in Orwell. She made many needlepoint baby quilts for friends and family that are treasured by all who received them. Geocaching was another passionate hobby that she enjoyed immensely. In her retirement, she kept in touch with many friends from high school, college, and her teaching days and enjoyed each group's get-together's and luncheons.
Louise is survived by her husband, Earl Shaffer; her brother, Michael; a grandson, Aiden Fletcher; granddaughters, Remington and Brooklin Shaffer, and Addison (Tim) Gaeckle; daughter-in-law, Julie Shaffer; and was recently blessed with a new great-granddaughter, Lazuli Gaeckle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Edith (nee Lowe) Miklacic; her son Todd Shaffer; her daughter Lisa Fletcher; and a grandson, Noah Fletcher.
Her many friends and family will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held, Friday, April 11, 2025 at 12:00PM at Paine Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, Ohio, 44076, with Pastor Jim Stanley, officiating. A calling hour will be observed one hour prior to service on Friday from 11:00AM until time of service at 12NOON. Burial will follow at Rome North Cemetery.
