Earl James Coe, 98, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 8:23 am, Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Parkview Huntington Hospital. He was born on December 31, 1926, in Wabash, to George C. and Retha Z. (Sopher) Coe.
Earl married the love of his life Mary M. Prater in Peru, Indiana on December 7, 1953. He began working at age 16 at Wabash Cabinet, then to Honeywell Inc. and General Tire. He enlisted in the US Army and also served in the US Air Force. After his military service Earl began working for Diehl Machines in Wabash and continued working there until 1971. Earl was a member of the Wabash American Legion and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flower gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Coe of Wabash; four children, Dorothy J. (Stephen) Deaton of Swayzee, Indiana, Earl D. (Sherry) Coe, Margaret M. (Sam) Williams and Jason J. (Teresa) Coe, all of Wabash; twelve grandchildren, Shanann (Bradley) Newhouse, Ryan (Lisa) Deaton, Tyler James (Sarah) Deaton, Brandy (Matthew) Dillon, Amanda (Kevin) Richardson, Brian Coe, Joshua Coe, Rachel Coe, Caleb Coe, Matthew Coe, Jacob Williams, and Serena Williams; nine great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother George Coe; sister Elsie Coe; half brother Sam Coe; and his nephew Larry Coe.
Private graveside service and burial will be held at Falls Cemetery, with David Phillips officiating. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
