Earl Ray Harrison, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend died at the age of 84 in Hillsboro, Ohio. On April 7, 2025, while sleeping, God put his arm around Earl and walked him home. Formerly of Virden, Earl was born January 10, 1941 in Vandalia, Illinois. He is the son of the late Ray and Ruby (McDowell) Harrison. Earl owned and operated Harrison Glass Company since 1962.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Harrison, brother, Darrell Harrison and his twin sister, Pearl Harrison. He married Ann Jenkins in June 1961 and they later divorced. He married his loving and caring wife, Myra, whom he adored, in October 2014.
He showed his love and commitment for his family and friends by consistently staying in touch with calls and visits. He loved attending events his children and grandchildren were participating in. Harrison Glass Company sponsored summer softball for several years. He was quite proud of the year his team took first place.
Earl is survived by his caring wife, Myra (Roler), his children, Becky (Kevin) Hampton of Franklin, Deb (Steve) McGown of Irving and Trustin (Lori) Harrison of Springfield. His grandchildren, Revy (Kourtni) Hampton, Kylie (John) Markiewicz, Nolan, Cameron, Augustine, Claire, Ruth and Gracia Harrison. Four great-grandchildren, Bryson and Harper Stewart and Gryder and Easton Hampton; a stepson, Tom (Trudy) Flynn of Plainville, Indiana, a sister-in-law, Jenny Roler of Hillsboro, Ohio, brother-in-law, Jay (Tena) Roler of Sardinia, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Earl will be deeply missed. Those who knew him, will always remember his unique character and sense of humor. His legacy of love, kindness and warmth will live on in the lives of those he touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virden Fire Department, 317 North Springfield, Virden, IL, 62690.
A celebration of Earl's life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Brewski's, 605 West Jefferson, Springfield, Illinois.
