Earl Ludy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Salisbury on Sep. 24, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Earl Cyrus Ludy, 68, of Pocomoke City, MD passed away on September 16, 2025,

surrounded by family. Earl was born on September 3, 1957, in Hagerstown, MD to

Cyrus K. and Rubye V. Ludy. He was preceded in death by his parents. Earl is survived

by Cheryl Ludy, his wife of 43 years; son Jason Ludy (Julia); daughter Megan Ludy, and

is survived by his brother Max Ludy, and sisters Melinda Ludy (Jo-Anne) and Laurie

Funk, and brother-in-law Kevin Brunk ( Vicki) and sister-in-law Linda Kosmicky. Earl's surviving

extended family includes many cousins, nieces, and nephews. His first love was always his

family.

Earl graduated from Clear Spring High School in Clear Spring, MD in 1975, going on to

receive a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from the University of Maryland - College

Park in 1979. As Earl would put it, his most prestigious accomplishment occurred at

College Park where he met the love of his life, Cheryl. Earl began his career in the

water and wastewater industry shortly after graduation in Culpeper, Virginia. In 1988,

Earl moved to Hebron, MD and began establishing his roots on the Eastern Shore

working at the City of Salisbury Wastewater Treatment Plant. In 1997, Earl furthered his

career in the water and wastewater industry when he took the position of Superintendent of

Field Operations at the Somerset County Sanitary District in Princess Anne, MD. He remained

here until his retirement in July of 2024. In addition to his primary position, Earl taught training

classes for water and wastewater operations across the entire state of Maryland.

To Earl, no one was a stranger. Within five minutes of meeting someone they had an

immediate connection, whether it be through someone they both went to high school

with, or supporting Earl's beloved Baltimore Orioles. In his free time, Earl was a certified

archery instructor, teaching archery for 4-H in Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester

counties for nearly 30 years. In August of each year, you would find Earl at the

Worcester County Fairgrounds. Here he assisted with anything and everything, but he

loved working with and teaching the 4Hers about their livestock. While there was always

a model train under the Christmas tree, it wasn't until retirement when Earl was able to

enjoy his true passion fully; collecting and building model train landscapes - HO scale

specifically. Earl quickly joined the Pocomoke Area Model Train Club, finding others who

enjoyed his passion just as much as he did. His new home on Wednesdays and

Saturdays became the old Pocomoke Train Station.

Earl was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Salisbury, MD for over 30 years.

He served on the Church Council as Treasurer for much of his time there. He carried

the bass line in Faith's choir with his powerful singing voice. When he wasn't engaged in

the accounting or singing you could find Earl leading or helping with whatever was

needed to beautify the church and its grounds.

Earl's legacy will go forward as a man who knew a little bit about everything and was

always willing to lend a helping hand.

A celebration of life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, MD on

Saturday, October 4 th , beginning at 2:00p.m. There will be a fellowship and a time to

share stories of Earl afterwards in the Asbury Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Earl's memory be made to either:

Faith Lutheran Church of Salisbury, MD, or,
