Earl Blair Lynch

Earl Blair Lynch, of Amarillo, Texas, received his eternal reward on February 22, 2026.

Earl was born on February 15, 1934, in Boston, Massachusetts. As the youngest of several siblings, he was deeply loved and fiercely cared for, especially by his older sisters. He grew up in the Beverly and Danvers, Massachusetts area, spending much of his time near the ocean and on the boardwalk.

In his early years, Earl worked various jobs, including logging, maintenance and cleaning for a local businessman at his meat market, and running a snowplow as needed. In 1952, he chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force.

After completing basic training, Earl was stationed at Perrin Air Force Base in Denison, Texas. There, at a local diner where she worked as a waitress, he met the love of his life, Sally. They were married on April 16, 1955, and together raised five wonderful children.

Earl was best known for his energetic and readily available servant’s heart. He was a loving, nurturing, and dedicated husband and father—not only to his own family, but to anyone in need. A strong yet quiet leader, Earl approached every facet of life with kindness, patience, and gentleness.

He faithfully served in the Air Force for 20 years. His service included deployment to Vietnam, work on the flight line, repairing aircraft, and later serving as an instructor in aircraft maintenance and repair. Along the way, he received several awards and commendations. Earl retired in 1972 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he and Sally settled in Amarillo after living in various locations across the country.

While transitioning to civilian life and providing for his growing family, Earl began working at Garner Motors. He later worked at Bell Helicopter and Pantex, utilizing his military experience and security clearance. Seeking a better work-life balance, he eventually joined Village Cadillac, where he remained until his retirement. During these years, Earl also worked on cars in his driveway for members of his congregation and friends who trusted only him with their repairs. He often helped widows and those who could not afford shop prices, simply loving people and serving as Jesus’ hands and feet. In his quieter moments, Earl especially cherished time spent with his family—sharing conversations, laughter, and simple moments together. He loved family camping trips and time in the outdoors, and particularly enjoyed hunting with his sons, grandchildren, and son-in-law, creating lasting memories and passing down his love for nature, patience, and tradition.

Earl was a lifelong Christian. He and Sally placed membership at Lawndale Church of Christ, later known as Comanche Trail Church of Christ, where they faithfully served for many years through seasons of growth and change. Earl served as a driver for the Joy Bus Ministry for nearly its entire existence and transported youth groups to events on the old Greyhound bus (which he also maintained and repaired) for many years. Along with Sally and close friends Dale and Barbara Young, he became one of the first house parents for Lawndale’s Children’s Emergency Home, a transitional home for children awaiting foster placement. He also served on the Benevolence Team, caring for those in need within the congregation and community. Earl assisted Sally with her toddler Bible class and later at her Montessori school in their home, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Earl.” They regularly hosted small group fellowship and Bible studies in their home, always accompanied by a warm meal. Earl helped deliver meals to those in need and took communion to shut-ins on Sundays. Known for his warm hugs, attentive listening, and constant encouragement, Earl had a special heart for children and brought joy to everyone he encountered.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Sally: parents and siblings: Madgie Lynch, Joan Morin, Mickie Lynch, and Evie Lynch.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Hendrickson of Denison, Texas, and Carolyn Curtis of Ivanhoe, Texas; his children: Steven Lynch of Lubbock; Samuel Lynch and wife Brenda of Paradise; Rodger Lynch and wife Toni of Stephenville; Charles Lynch and wife Kelly of Amarillo; and Amy Sumpter and husband Shelby of Pottsboro, Texas. He was richly blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved and was immensely proud of.

A visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Boulevard, Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Comanche Trail Church of Christ in Amarillo. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Plains Children’s Home or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
