Jeanerette, LA - A home-going celebration of life for Deaconess Earline Jackson "Ms. Billie" Wise, 102, will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at First Jerusalem Baptist Church (835 Monnot Road) with Pastor Arthur L. Alexander, officiating.
She will await the resurrection in Heavenly Rest Cemetery (Hubertville Road) in Jeanerette, LA.
Visitation hours will be observed at First Jerusalem Baptist Church on Saturday, February 24, 2024, beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Mrs. Wise transitioned peacefully February 17, 2024, at Park Manor of South Belt in Houston, TX. Ms. Billie as she was known by many, was a loving mother, grandmother, a cherished aunt to her extended family and friend to all who knew her.
She was the daughter of Albert Jackson and Alberta Jackson Beloney, born in Jeanerette, LA on December 3, 1921. As a young lady she moved to New Orleans, LA where she graduated from the YMCA School of Commerce. There, Earline Jackson met and united in marriage to Albert Wise. To this union one child was born, Charlotte.
Mrs. Wise attended Iberia Parish Schools during her childhood years. She received her Bachelor of Science of Education degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA and Master of Education Degree from Columbia University in New York City.
Her entire teaching years were spent in the St. Mary Parish School System. When active, Mrs. Wise was involved in and belonged to numerous professional and social organizations. She was a member of Lucinda Pierre Chapter No. 32 Order of Eastern Star, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and The National Association of University Women.
For many years Mrs. Wise was actively involved in her church, First Jerusalem Baptist Church where she has been a member for some eighty plus years. She was baptized at an early age by Reverend F.M. Boley. She served in the Senior Choir, Deaconess Board, Busy Bee Club Sunday school teacher, and Vacation Bible School Principal. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. Her favorite hymns were, I Will Trust in the Lord and Amazing Grace.
Mrs. Wise was preceded to Heaven by her beloved husband, Albert Wise; her sister, Katherine Fentroy and her husband William V. Fentroy; her mother, Alberta Jackson Beloney; her father, Albert Jackson and stepfather, Albert Beloney.
Mrs. Wise leaves to cherish her memory, her only child, a daughter, Charlotte W. Williams (Dorsey); grandchildren, Attorney Ursula N. Williams, Christopher Williams (Shasta) all of Houston, TX; niece and nephew, Kathy Fentroy of Houston, TX and William Carey Fentroy of New York, NY, niece, Sharon Cromwell of Milwaukee, WI and Joan Yvette Thomas of Jeanerette, LA as well as a host of relatives and friends in Louisiana, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Active pallbearers are Anderson Clay, Robert Frelow, Keith Lewis, Edward Lewis, Robert Marks, and Joseph Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers are Dorsey Williams, Christopher Williams, William Carey Fentroy, Mark Gray, Horace Alex, Danny Sparrow, Jr., Clifton Tate, Clarence Clark, and Lionel Robert.
