Earnest C. Coots, a beloved member of the community, passed away on July 27, 2023 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky at the age of 59. He was born on January 6th, 1964, in Hazard, KY. Earnest's contributions to the field of strip mining and logging are unparalleled. His exemplary work record showcased his dedication and passion for his profession.

Earnest completed his education at Leslie Co. High School and vocational school, where he gained valuable skills and knowledge. Throughout his career, he demonstrated a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence that earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Earnest had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, camping, ATV riding, and above all else, spending quality time with his cherished family. These hobbies allowed him to forge lasting memories with loved ones and create bonds that will be treasured forever.

On July 30th, 2023, a visitation will be held in memory of Earnest Coots at the Smilax Church of Christ in Smilax, Kentucky from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. It is an opportunity for friends, family members, and acquaintances to pay their respects to this remarkable individual who touched so many lives.

A funeral service will then take place on July 31st, 2023 also at the Smilax Church of Christ in Wooton starting at 12:00 PM with Harold Turner and Danny Day officiating. This solemn ceremony will commemorate Earnest's life and provide solace to those grieving his loss. The caring presence of friends and loved ones during this difficult time will undoubtedly offer comfort to the grieving family. The interment will follow the funeral service at the Pauline & Paul Coots Cemetery, Smilax, Ky.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Matthew Coots, Gary Baker, James Boggs, Brian Baker, Steven Coots, Danny Coots, Tim France, and Leonard Baker.

Earnest was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Pauline Fields Coots, and brothers Malcom and Danny Coots.

Earnest is survived by his loving wife Crystal Carroll Coots of Yeaddiss, Kentucky; his devoted sons Earnest Dakota "Cody" Coots and Matthew Shane Coots, also of Yeaddiss, Kentucky. He was a loving and caring figure in the life of his great niece, Brooklyn Adams, whom he loved as his own.

Additionally, he is survived by his brothers Keith Coots and Linda of Hyden, Kentucky; Elmer Coots of Wooton, Kentucky; Steven Coots and Mae of Smilax, Kentucky; and his sister Shirley Baker and Gary of Yeaddiss, Kentucky. Earnest's sisters Donna Woods and Dean of London, Kentucky, and Kathy Carroll and Clayton Jr. of Smilax, Kentucky also mourn his loss.

Earnest's influence extended to younger generations as well. His treasured granddaughter Sydney Patricia held a special place in his heart.

The legacy left behind by Earnest C. Coots is one that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him. His dedication to his work, love for his family, and zest for life will always be remembered fondly.

May we find comfort in knowing that Earnest's spirit lives on through the memories we shared with him. As we gather together to honor his life, let us remember the warmth he brought to our lives and the lasting impact he had on all those he encountered.
