EARNEST RALLS, JR. was born in Russellville, Georgia on December 24, 1933 to the parentage of the late Mr. Earnest Ralls, Sr. and Mrs. Mollie McCowen Ralls. He peacefully transitioned on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the age of 91.
Earnest attended Pine Grove School in Culloden and dedicated 17 years of service as a logger at Keadle Lumber Company before retiring. He was also a member of Pine Grove CME Church in Culloden, Georgia.
A beloved member of his community, he found great joy in sharing his wisdom with the younger generations, especially when it came to fishing, hunting, and his love for baseball. Earnest was a true Atlanta Braves fan, faithfully watching every game with passionate support for his team. His love for gospel music was also a constant source of comfort, with his favorite artists including Lee Williams, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and The Highway QC's. Above all, Earnest cherished his family, holding a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and devoted children John and Sandra who lovingly cared for him until the very end.
For 91 years, Earnest graced this world with his kindness and humor. He was a proud member of the Rubye James Watts 90-100 Birthday Club. He often said, "I'm trying to make it to 100; because 99 1/2 just won't do"! He enjoyed fellowshipping with his dear friends Margaret Jones, John Wesley Josey, Sr., and Mannon Zellner. Even in his final days, he remained in his right mind, a testament to the strength and grace of his journey. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in all who knew him.
Earnest was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosa Lee Hogan Ralls; his son, James Arthur Hogan; and his siblings, George Herman Ralls, William Ralls, Jesse Thomas Ralls, Therance Ralls, Bernice Lucas, Jerolene Owens, and Mary Frances Sullivan.
He leaves behind a loving family; two children, John (Minnie) Ralls of Forsyth, Georgia and Sandra (Clarence) Walker, of Bolingbroke, Georgia; devoted daughter-in-law, Minister Juanita D. Hogan; six grandchildren, Sheldon (Francine) Hogan, Krystle (Willie) Reid, Calvin Montel Ralls, Breanna (Larry) Emery, Carmen Ralls, and Clarissa Walker; great-grandchildren, Maximus, Rosario, Willie III, Braylan, Malakai, and soon-to-arrive Bailey Rose; sisters, Annie Laura Brown, Anna Jo Ralls, and Elzie Kate Douglas; sister-in-laws, Pearlie Toles, Ella Holden, and Sandra J.H. Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
