Edalene Boswell Kunkel finished her earthly journey and entered heaven on October 19, 2023. She was born on June 28, 1927, in southwest Nueces County on the Eliff ranch and was educated in the Bishop Public Schools and Texas A & I College, Kingsville (now TAMUK). She resided in the Annaville area of Corpus Christi since 1961.
In praise and thanksgiving to God, Edalene offered her gifts of song and writing at the churches where she was a member. As a mother and grandmother, she supported love, forgiveness, and family unity along with extended education. She was a loyal friend and especially appreciated life-long activities with girlhood friends and good times with members of her bridge club. She married Edgar V. Kunkel, September 25, 1948, who was the wind beneath her wings. They were married for 69 years.
After her four children were educated, Edalene renewed her interest in writing poetry. She was a past member of Byliners of Corpus Christi and the Poetry Society of Texas. She also participated in a poetry round robin group for more than 15 years. In 2012, she published her prize-winning poems: Nectar Gathering, Poems from South Texas.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Rev. Lee R. Kunkel (Deborah), Dr. Dale A. Kunkel (Diane), Dr. Cynthia Kunkel Scott, (William) and Robert W. Kunkel, chemical engineer, (Judy). Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Belinda Kunkel Sikes (Roy), Cara Kunkel, Jaron Kunkel (Karina), Matthew Kunkel (Stacey), Lauren Kunkel, Virginia Scott Cote (Kris), Dr. Victoria Scott Sivils (Corey), Stephen Kunkel (Danielle), Emily Kunkel Reed (Henry), and Kristen Kunkel, as well as 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
