Karen Raye Kellum Ward, lovingly known as Karen to her friends and family, was a beacon of kindness and joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Born on April 22, 1954, in Stephenville, Texas, Karen grew up in a nurturing environment that shaped her into the compassionate person she was. On October 28, 2025, at the age of 71, Karen passed away in Plano, Texas, due to complications of rheumatoid arthritis.
Karen's life was a testament to her enduring faith and the love she had for her family. Predeceased by her parents, JV and Alta Kellum, and her brother Norman Kellum, she carried the legacy of their values and love throughout her life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Ward, her loving son, Bryan Ward, her cherished grandson Hudson Ward, her caring brother Randy Kellum, and her cherished niece Holly Lee and nephew Eric Kellum.
A graduate of Richard King High School's class of 1973, Karen went on to earn an associate's degree in psychology and Sociology from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. Her education laid a foundation for the understanding and empathy she exhibited throughout her life.
Karen chose to dedicate her life to creating a warm and loving home as a homemaker and mother. Her passion for life was evident in the way she decorated her home for every season and holiday, bringing joy and a sense of celebration to those around her. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and filling her home with love and grace.
An avid reader, Karen found solace and adventure in the pages of books. Her love for cooking meant that her table was always a place of welcome, with meals prepared with love for family and friends. Music filled her home, reflecting her love for melody and harmony in life. Karen's affection for her dogs, especially her Shelties, was profound, and they, in turn, provided her with companionship and comfort.
Karen's creative spirit led her to explore writing and video creation, a testament to her forward-thinking and love for storytelling. The time she spent with family and friends was precious to her, and she cherished every moment.
Those who knew Karen would describe her as loving, kind, and funny. Her laughter and humor brought light into the lives of many, and her gentle spirit will be deeply missed. As the well-known quote by Helen Keller reminds us, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Karen's love and the memories she created with her loved ones will forever remain in their hearts.
Karen's life was a beautiful example of the Christian virtues of love, kindness, and generosity. She will be remembered not only for the life she led but also for the lives she touched. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will be cherished forever.
