Eddie & Glenda Burks

Mrs. Glenda Kayleen Burks, age 81, and Mr. James Edward “Eddie” Burks, age 82, passed away hours apart on the evening of September 9, 2025, and morning of September 10, 2025, respectively.

Glenda was born on May 25, 1944, in Wayne County, Michigan; Eddie was born on July 23, 1943, in Cullman, Alabama. Their paths crossed when they were young and Eddie was immediately in love with Glenda. The two dated, fell-in-love, and were wed on February 16, 1963. Together they have shared countless memories, raised their five children, and celebrated 62 years of marriage. Eddie retired from Buick City in Flint, and Glenda waitressed and raised the children. They had many adventures and travels over the years which included trips to Alaska, Hawai’i, Bahamas, Florida, and camping in East Jordan, Michigan. Eddie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed elk and deer hunting. Glenda enjoyed word searches and the mysteries of Murder She Wrote. Above all, Eddie and Glenda were devoted to their family and loved doting on their grandchildren. Their happiest moments were spent at family gatherings.

They are forever loved by their children: James Edward, Jr. (Jana) Burks, Donvie Ray Burks, Lorene Marie (Matthew) Byers, Tera Lynn (Jeff Loucks) Burks, DeAndra Lea (Steve) Vela; the devoted grandparents of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; Glenda’s sister, Aranell Robinson; Eddie’s siblings: Dillard Burks, David (Millie) Burks, Debbie (George) Cameron, Donnie (Barb) Burks, and Shirley Gibson; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Glenda was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Robinson; brother, Sherwood Robinson, and sister, Karen “Max”. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Donvie Burks & Dorothy Lorene (Tankersley) Burks; and sister, Fran Limban.

The Burks family will receive visitors at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 3 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Services will follow at the funeral home at 12 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025; additional visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating will be grandsons, Stephen Vela, and Shawn Steenbergh. Afterwards, Eddie and Glenda will be laid to rest together at Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris, MI.
