Eddie Latta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Graves Medley Funeral Services on Nov. 18, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Eddie Mae Latta passed away peacefully and entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Born on November 10, 1936, in Rison, Arkansas, Eddie Mae was the eldest child of Lester Smith and Lee Birda Smith.

She attended Greenwich Public Schools and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1953, receiving her formal education there.

Eddie Mae was employed as a Secretary at Pitney Bowes where she worked in the Billing/Advertising along with Receiving, and Inspection departments. She was a dedicated employee for 44 years in this corporation until her retirement in 1998.

Eddie Mae was a faithful and dedicated member of Union Baptist Church for over 50+ years. She served on a variety of committees such as the Pastors Anniversary and a Youth mom for the Children/Youth Choir. She was one of the founding members of the Autumn Gold Senior Program at Union Baptist Church and active in both the Yerwood Center and the AARP Seniors' Program.

Affectionately known as "Nannie" to her grandchildren, Eddie Mae was a joyful and uplifting presence. She loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to share God's word and goodness.

Calling Eddie Mae "the life of the party" or "hostess of the mostess" doesn't fully capture her vibrant spirit and love for people -she would leave a memorable impression everywhere she went along with her warm smile. She lived her life the way she wanted and with no regrets. Her sharp "sayings" & witty humor could light up any room she entered, and everybody knew when Eddie Mae was "in the house". Laughter was her language of love, and she always would have something funny to say when you saw her.

Eddie Mae's greatest joy came from being a mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend. She cherished her family deeply and took pride in talking caring for them.

She is lovingly survived by her two daughters, Gale Houser DuBois (EJ) of Chesterfield, VA, and Terri Latta Bryant (William) of Bridgeport, CT; three grandchildren, Shawn Harris of Hackensack, NJ / Ashlee DuBois of Stratford, CT, and Bryce Bryant of Huntington Beach, CA; her great-grandchild, Eli Harris; two brothers, Curtis Smith of East Northport, LI, and Titus Smith (Theresa) of Seabrook, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will always remember her fondly.

In addition to her parents, Lester and Lee Birda Smith, Eddie Mae was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Garner, and her brother, Otis Smith.

Mrs. Eddie Mae Latta will be remembered as a devoted and humorous mother and grandmother, and as a woman whose faith, strength, kindness, and courage touched everyone she met.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 21, 2025 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT.

I wish I had known her! She sounds like a wonderful person, somebody you would cherish the times you happened to run into her in the ordinary course of your day. My oldest sister and she overlapped at GHS for two years. I would have loved it if the two of them met at our house occasionally.
