Mr. Edgar Lamar Simpson, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, with family and his loving wife by his side at their home in Ludlow, MS. Visitation will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM. Bro. Kevin Griffin will be officiating the service at 2:00 PM in our Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Riverbend Baptist Church cemetery; 1634 Riverbend Road, Lena, MS. 39094. There will be no graveside services.
Edgar, or “Mr. Ed” as his close friends lovingly call him, he was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church along with his wife Dagmar, where together, they enjoyed fellowship in Christ.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; Vilas “Sonny” Lamar Simpson and Maybell Everett Simpson; daughter, Sherry Sims; brother, James William “Tat” Simpson; nephew, Joey Tynes; and stepson, Walter Crapps, Jr.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Dagmar Simpson of Ludlow; MS; children, Vicky Rogers (Reed), Nicole Buffington (Matthew), Karola Boatman, Patricia Parker (Glen), Vickie Turnage (Edmond), and James Crapps; Siblings, Linda Tynes (Joe), Mallie Rae Parker (Percy), Melvin “Manny” Simpson (Cindy), Evelyn Fair (Joe); twenty-two grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews, as well as a host of friends.
Ed, the oldest of six children, was born to “Sonny” and Maybell Simpson on June 9, 1939, in Morton, MS. He was raised on a farm in the community of Clarksburg, just outside of Morton, MS. He was a 1958 graduate of Morton High School, where he received multiple “Who’s Who” awards, and was well known for his outstanding talents on the football field, of which earned the nickname “BULL” Simpson, as well as an induction into the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame on July 24, 2021. He is also well known for his horsemanship over the years. He loved his horses and “The Run-Away Wagon” making a point to ride on the Dixie National Wagon Train every year that he was able.
Mr. Ed’s great love of family, horses, football, Friends, and Life, coupled with his kindness to all he met (“a handshake and a smile is all it takes”) will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Pallbearers will be Reed Rogers, Jr., Dylan Cross, Peyton Cross, Loftin Turnage, Preston Turnage, James Crapps, Chris Crapps, and Case Parker.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dale Rogers, Mitchell Sheppard, Gary Hawkins, Bruce Buffington,
Mark Warren, John Holmes, and Colin Measells.
