Ballard Funeral Home & CrematoryEdith Hinojosa, a beloved member of the Roswell community, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, in her hometown at the age of 80. Born on February 21, 1945, in Roswell, New Mexico, Edith lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.
A devoted homemaker, Edith exemplified the virtues of patience and care in every corner of her life. She also contributed her talents over many years working at Levi's, where she forged lasting friendships and touched the lives of those around her. Her influence extended far beyond the workplace, as she was deeply engaged in her family's lives, nurturing a home that was filled with warmth and compassion.
Edith was a cherished member of St. John's Catholic Church, where her faith flourished and her spirit shone brightly. Her devotion to God and her family was evident in all that she did. She found immense joy in her role as a sister, aunt, and friend, always taking the time to offer a helping hand or a listening ear. Her family meant the world to her, and she took great pride in being the supportive and loving figure they looked up to.
She leaves behind her beloved brothers and sisters: Charlie Thompson, Joe Thompson, Olivia Artiaga, and Mary Smith, all of Roswell. In addition, she is remembered with fondness by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, who will carry forward the warmth of her memory.
Edith is now reunited with her cherished husband, Oscar Hinojosa, and her parents, Charles and Susie Smith-Thompson. She is also joined in eternal rest with her late brother, Alex Thompson. As her family grieves their loss, they find solace in their faith and the knowledge that Edith touched many lives during her time with them, imparting love and wisdom that will linger on.
A visitation will take place on October 14, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Ballard Funeral Home, located at 910 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88203. A Rosary service will follow at St. John's Catholic Church at 9:30 AM on October 15, 2025, leading into her Funeral Service at 10 AM that same day.
As we remember Edith Hinojosa, we are reminded of the truth found in 1 Thessalonians, "Beloved brothers and sisters, we want you to be quite certain about the truth concerning those who have passed away, so that you won't be overwhelmed with grief like many others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who died while believing in Him." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, which encourages us to hold onto hope and joy even in the face of loss. Her spirit, love, and kindness will forever be etched in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
