TAUNTON – Edith E. (Parker) Payne, 91, of Taunton, formerly of Attleboro and Dedham, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Born in Boston on October 23, 1933, she was the loving daughter of the late Pearley R. Parker and Marjorie A. (Shaw) Parker. Edith was raised in Dedham and went on to work as a clerk at several retail stores, including MVP Sports and Rachelle's in Foxboro. She retired from MVP Sports at the age of 70.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Edith found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved quilting and was always up for a shopping trip. Her faith was a guiding presence in her life, and she attended Rehoboth Baptist Church in Dighton.
She is survived by her son, Robert Payne of Taunton; her daughter, Carol E. Cordell and her husband Patrick of North Carolina; and her cherished grandchildren, Eric Cordell and his wife Devon, and Benjamin Cordell. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren-Deven, Raya, and Hannah-as well as three nieces, one nephew, and many friends.
Edith was the sister of the late Pearley "Roy" Parker and Warren A. Parker.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, beginning with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Sperry-McHoul-Pichi Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
A service in celebration of her life will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery & Arboretum, 565 Mount Hope Street, Attleboro Falls.
