Edith Beatrice Robinson, 93, of New Haven, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026. She was born on July 29, 1932 in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Her parents were Herbert and Almena Aklin, and she was the fourth child of eleven children. Edith married Lamar Robinson, Sr. on April 16, 1955. They had five children, Lorraine, Paul, Lamar, Jr., Sharon, and Greta. Edith worked at Sargent Manufacturing Company as a machine technician until she retired in August of 1994.
Edith was a member of Varick Memorial AME Zion Church. She was a class leader. Over the years, she was a member of Young Women of Varick, Women Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Church Women United, the Deaconess Board, and worked with the soup kitchen. Edith loved cooking and entertaining with friends and family during the holidays. She was known for her delightful cakes.
Edith leaves to mourn, her daughters, Lorraine Hutchinson of Conway, South Carolina and Greta Robinson of Clinton, Maryland; grandchildren, Carmello Dekane (Erica) and Dominique Hutchinson; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Azalee Rawls, Lula Gore, and Edna Aklin; and a host of relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Edith is predeceased by her husband, Lamar Robinson, Sr.; children, Paul Aklin, Lamar Robinson, Jr., and Sharon Shields; siblings, Gladys White (James), Herbert Aklin (Geraldine), Otha Write (Louis), Ruby Bryant (Nathaniel), Willie Aklin (Everline), Laverne Aklin (Diane), and James Aklin (Flores); and sons-in-law, Willie "Bill" Hutchinson and Cedric Shields.
