Edith Smith Obituary

July 8, 1943 -
September 15, 2023

Edith Pugh "Edee" Smith passed away on September 15, 2023 at The Laurels of Hendersonville, North Carolina, after a lengthy illness.
An Albemarle native, Edee was the daughter of Charles Ross Smith, Sr., and Cora Mae Hege Smith, who predeceased her.
Her only sibling, Colonel Charles Ross Smith, Jr., USMC (Ret.), passed away in 2002.
Edee was a graduate of Albemarle High School and matriculated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Health and Physical Education.
Upon graduation from college, she began her high school teaching career at Cabarrus County High School, Concord, North Carolina.
Upon retirement, she returned to Albemarle to live with her parents while assisting in their care.
Edee later moved to Hendersonville to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in the North Carolina mountains. She remained there until her death.
When asked about her life, she once replied, "I am content."
Edee is survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Waters Smith (Beaufort, South Carolina), her niece E. Paige Smith Duft (Asheville, North Carolina) and her nephew J. Eric Smith (Sedona, Arizona).

Edee was my first cousin and while we were not close she and "Little Charlie" were always at family gatherings. Her Dad, my Uncle Charlie, was a big supporter of my family. My Dad was Willie T. Smith, Uncle Charlie's brother and we lived in Badin. My Dad and Uncle Charlie worked together at the N.C, Highway Department. Billy Smith
