Edmond E. Koons, 77, of Moylan, PA, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Born July 14, 1947, in Des Moines, IA, he was a son of the late Edmond A. and Helen (Yakish) Koons.
Growing up, Ed (affectionately known as Eddie) was always kind, happy, and friendly to everyone around him. He served as a mentor to his two younger brothers, David and Rick, and was a wonderful younger brother to his sister, Susie. He and his friend Tommy Hall would often playfully spy on her when she returned home from dates.
Ed attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Drake University with honors, impressively passing two actuarial exams before he even graduated. He was an outstanding swimmer and was ranked first on his high school team in the breaststroke.
Ed enjoyed a successful and respected career as an actuary, ultimately becoming a partner at the Hay Group, where he dedicated most of his professional life until his retirement. Despite the demands of his career, he always prioritized his family and friends. He cherished spending time with his loved ones at the pool club and coaching his son's baseball team during the summers. An avid sports fan, Ed passionately supported Philadelphia teams, with a particular love for high school sports.
Always eager to help others, Ed devoted his retirement to volunteering at church and with the Delaware County Literacy Council, where he was recognized for going above and beyond in helping adults improve their literacy skills to earn their GEDs.
He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, as well as his kindness and compassion as a father, husband, brother, and uncle. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Whiffin) Koons; two sons, Michael (Marci) Koons and Stephen Koons; a sister, Susie (Tony) Ortale and a brother, Richard (Cindy) Koons; and several nieces and nephews.
A reception will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wallingford, with details to be announced at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
