Kenneth D. Black, lovingly known as Kenny, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 75 years old.
Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, on March 23, 1950, Kenny was the beloved husband of Mary Jane Black and devoted father to his only child, Tina Underwood, and her husband Jake. He was the proud grandfather of his only grandchild, Emily Underwood, who brought him endless joy.
Kenny was the last surviving child of the late Harry W. and Violet L. Black. He was preceded in death by his 11 siblings, making him the final surviving member of his generation. He leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
A dedicated and skilled worker, Kenny spent more than 30 years in the contracting business with S&S Home Improvements in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, working alongside his brother and best friend Rich and other close friends. He specialized in windows, siding, doors, roofs, and more-always taking pride in a job well done.
Kenny proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam Era, stationed in Germany as a combat engineer.
Outside of work, Kenny was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a passion for collecting knives and die-cast cars and enjoyed adult coloring as a relaxing pastime. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and friends. His favorite vacation spot was Cape May, New Jersey, where he created lasting memories with loved ones. One of his most cherished fishing spots was Fortescue, New Jersey, where he enjoyed long boat trips with his friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, June 26, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cavanagh-Patterson Family Funeral Home, 43 E. Baltimore Avenue, Media, PA 19063. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Main Line Health Hospice, in honor of Kenny's memory and his giving spirit. Kenny will forever remain in our hearts, and he will be deeply missed.
