Edmund Denis Metz, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Caswell County, North Carolina, at the age of 69. Born on January 7, 1956, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Samson Francis Metz and Ann Josephine (Horgan) Metz.
Ed proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. After his military service, he devoted himself to becoming an educator and shared his love for words and literature as a high school English teacher at Londonderry NH, Greater Lowell Vocational in MA, & Cummings High in NC. His students will remember him not only for his dedication to teaching but for his engaging discussions on T.S. Eliot-his favorite poet-and his ability to inspire a love for poetry in others.
A man of varied interests, Ed was an ardent supporter of Boston's beloved sports teams, a steadfast fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, and the New England Patriots, with a special admiration for Tom Brady. His enthusiasm extended beyond spectating; he also enjoyed participating in sports as an umpire and coach, sharing his knowledge and love for the game with many.
An avid reader of World War II history, Ed was never far from a book, and in quieter moments, he would pen his own poetry, much of which reflected his contemplative nature and deep appreciation for life's intricacies. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: Brother Robert Metz and his wife Mary Metz of Massachusetts. Daughter Tricia Brown and her husband Steve of New Hampshire; son Karl Metz and daughter Annie Palumbo both of Massachusetts; and adored grandchildren Nicholas, Christian, Lia, and Shea. He also leaves behind special friends Jay and Kami Hardy, who shared in his journey and joys.
The family would like to thank all of the Hospice workers who helped Ed, throughout his journey.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held at this time. Ed's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
