Edmund Lee Schaefer, age 90, of Jefferson City, MO passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center. He is the son of Leo and Annie (Rotter) Schaefer. He was born in Bonnots Mill, MO on November 5. 1934.

He attended Immaculate Conception School at Loose Creek, MO and was a 1952 graduate of Fatima High School.

He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and belonged to the St. Martins Knights of Columbus #7194 and former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #2693.

Ed and Anna Mae were married October 8, 1955, at St. Martin Catholic Church and the two enjoyed almost 70 years of marriage together. Anna Mae survives at home.

He played baseball (catcher) for Jeff City Redbirds and Stag's baseball teams in the 1950's. He played against Jefferson City Correctional inmate teams at the prison and played against a team that Whitey Herzog was on.

Ed was a lineman for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2. He worked for Central Electric Power Company for over 39 years until his retirement as Superintendent in 1996.

Ed enjoyed many things throughout his life including fishing, quail hunting, woodworking, dancing, playing cards with Card Club, boating on the Osage River, camping on the Moreau Creek and going to watch his grandkids play sports.

He enjoyed vacations, including going to Niagara Falls, Reno, Washington DC, Minneapolis, MN, Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and loved visiting Branson.

Ed is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Mae (Welch) Schaefer, three sons, Kenneth (Theresa) Schaefer, Lohman, MO, Michael (Terena) Schaefer, Norborne, MO and Daniel (Wanda) Schaefer, Centertown, MO and one daughter, Carla Buschjost, (Ronnie Robinson) Jefferson City, MO. Ten grandchildren, Megan (Ryan) Ortbals, Russellville, MO, Matthew (Grace) Schaefer, Coralville, IA, Mason (Jessi) Schaefer, Lohman, MO, Stacia (Andrew) Cowherd, Norborne, MO, Brandon (Christina) Schaefer, Crossroads, Texas, Justin (Kallie) Schaefer, Liberty, MO, Kyle (Lara) Schaefer, Hartsburg, MO, Melissa (Brendan)Roberts, St. Louis, MO, Brody Buschjost (Abbi Pringer), Wardsville, MO and Cadie Buschjost, St. Louis, MO. and 14 great grandchildren, 2 due in December, 2025, and 3 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and their wives, Francis and Marietta Schaefer and Donald and Joyce and earlier in life Ester Schaefer and in-laws, LeRoy and Catherine Welch, Clarence and Darlene Welch, Eugene Bolin, Donald Schaefer, Carla Welch and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Ed's honor to a charity of the donor's choice.

Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at St. Martin Catholic Church with a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at St. Martin Catholic Church with Rev. Nicholas Reid as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.
