Edna Earl Mitchell

Edna Earl Mitchell was born on February 18, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to the late Earl Williams and Odessa Brown. She transitioned peacefully following injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred on December 29, 2025, in Longview, Texas. Her beloved grandson, Jamie Mitchell, was also involved in the accident and passed away two days later, on December 31, 2025.

Edna was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Mount Pleasant, Texas, Class of 1955. She was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant before relocating to California in 1960. While in California, she pursued her calling in healthcare, graduating from nursing school and dedicating her life to service. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Benicia, California.

Edna was a founding member of the Magnificent 12 Social Club, an organization committed to community involvement through events and fundraisers. She lived life fully, traveling extensively and maintaining a vibrant social life. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Professionally, Edna volunteered at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, California, retired from Brookside Hospital, and later returned to the workforce before eventually retiring from Martinez County Hospital after years of dedicated service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Williams and Odessa Brown; her beloved husband, John Mitchell; and her son, Terrence Mitchell.

Edna leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters: Sherri Mitchell of Hallsville, Texas; Cheryl Mitchell of Vallejo, California; and Beverly Mitchell Jones of Mount Pleasant, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, India Ledward, Simone Ledward, and Jason Mitchell, all of California, and Amanda Hillsman of Tennessee; her great-grandchildren, Evan Mitchell, Jazlie Mitchell, Eathan Ledward, Charlie Ledward, and Bailey Hillsman; along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.
