Edward John Abendschein Jr. of Mountain Lakes, NJ passed away on Wednesday March 13 of natural causes at the age of 76 in Hanover, PA. He was born in Hanover, PA on March 5, 1948.
Ed was the owner or partner of several small manufacturing businesses over his career, primarily the Hanover-based New Way Packaging Machinery, Inc., which was previously owned by his father. He owned and operated New Way at the time of his death.
Ed resided primarily in Mountain Lakes, NJ. He was known as an avid traveler, who visited more than 100 countries, and frequently drove around America as well - as a young(ish) father he took his family all the way from New Jersey to Alaska one summer, and all the way to Mexico the next. He continued to enjoy long driving trips all the way up to the year of his death, primarily to visit family in Colorado and California.
Ed took up poker later in life and became an impressively skilled player who ranked in the top 1,000 tournament money winners of all time in New Jersey.
He spent much of his personal time reading news, fiction and history and delighted in demonstrating a deep knowledge of all three in conversation.
Ed is survived by three children Jonathan, Dan and Lauren, and four grandchildren, sisters Sue and Helen, and brother Bill.
A memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, March 30th at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover, PA. A time to share memories and gather with the family will also be on Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30am until the start of the service. The family will lay Ed to rest in private following the service at Mt Olivet Cemetery.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.

I enjoyed our long conversations, travels to Japan and Southeast Asia. Local travels , dining at Don Pepe´s and sharing a porterhouse steak and bottle of wine; festivals, Disneyland, conferences, weekend getaways and and everlasting friendship that most people did not understand - discussions about politics , religion, family and sometimes pointless arguments and disagreements. I miss those times and thought we had time.....
