Edward Thomas Argo, my beloved Dad, left his 97-year-old body on this earth and moved in spirit to his eternal home with the Father, on the evening of December 30, 2024. He moved on from this earth peacefully and independently while in his home.
Dad was born in the kitchen of his parent's home in Moosup, CT, on October 13, 1927.
His Father, Joseph Argo, immigrated to these United States, entering like so many soon to be Americans, at Ellis Island NY. Joseph was born in Italy and his family moved to Venezuela during his toddler years.
His mother, Victoria Mangarelli, was born in Providence RI, the daughter of Italian immigrants.
Dad had two older brothers, Anthony Argo and Joseph Argo Jr. They are once again all together enjoying stories of playing stickball, running and playing fetch with their beloved dog Sparky, swimming in Moosup Pond, tending the garden and livestock on the Argo family self-sustaining homestead; all while their mom lovingly tended to her family and their dad provided for them by working at Carder-Woolen Mill.
Dad's life was richly colored by the Great Depression and Pearl Harbor. His oldest brother, Tony served in an Army platoon courageously fighting in Italy under General George Patton, while his other brother Joe served in the Air Force (despite his battle with childhood polio).
Dad, wanted desperately to also serve his beloved United States, and as he was underage, pleaded with his mom to sign the needed papers so that he could round out the Argo family military representation, enlisting in the Navy. He was stationed at Barbers Point Oahu Hawaii as an Aviation Structural Mechanic with additional duties as a fighter plane gunner. His Missions were flown off of the USS Boxer and the USS Valey Forge.
During a brief leave between basic training and deployment to Barbers Point my dad met my mom, Lorraine Frechette, at All Hallows Church Moosup Ct. As the story goes my lovely mom tap danced her way into my dad's heart (Fred and Ginger style) after they were each leaving Saturday afternoon confession. They corresponded during Dads deployment and married shortly after his honorable discharge from the Navy.
Dads Navy experience led him to a lifelong aerospace career beginning with Sciaky,Inc and transitioning to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft until, at age 58 he " retired" and began his own aerospace consulting firm, working with Pratt & Whitney and other companies worldwide.
All the above are interesting facts about what Ed Argo 'did', in societal terms.
Yet the essence of this man's spirit is in his humility, his humor, his unwavering pursuit of truth and most importantly his love of God. In words he shared with me shortly before his passing "a person's success is only measured in how well they do their best to walk in the sandals of the Fisherman."
You did dad. Sail on Sailor. Fly high upon the many air bodies, domestic and military, powered by the jet engine technology you were instrumental in designing, developing, and producing.
Besides the individuals mentioned above Ed leaves his daughter Edie Argo of Wenham MA and his granddaughter Renee Lassow and Alex Russell of Portland ME.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2025, 11 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor. Military Honors will follow at the church. Burial will be private. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.

Ed Argo hired me into Pratt & Whitney in 1979. My first boss in Manufacturing Engineering.. Ed was a great leader who got this "youngster" on the right path. Deepest condolences on his passing.

Ed was a wonderful man, a good friend and a great storyteller. We shared our Friday mornings at the club and he was always the highlight. He was so knowledgeable and always free in sharing that knowledge. My time with Ed was too short but I will remember and miss him always. Don't worry, my friend...I'll split the coffee and donut run with All now and celebrate you every Friday in doing so. Fly with the angels, Ed and may you find peace everlasting. Prayers to your family and may they find comfort in a lifetime of great memories. Rick Scheller Jr.
