Dr. Bruce Evans Burnham passed away peacefully with family by his side on his 87th birthday. Bruce was born on December 16, 1937, in Buffalo, NY to Ralph Eugene Burnham and Gladys Evans Burnham. He was raised in the quaint village of Williamsville, NY and spent many Summers on Lake Erie with friends and family.
After attending Williamsville High School where he was a proud member of the National Honor Society, Bruce graduated from Princeton University (1960) and eagerly anticipated the many reunions in the years to follow. After Princeton, Bruce attended the University of Pennsylvania Medical School (1964) followed by residencies at Cornell/Sloan Kettering, Yale and Hartford Hospital. He opened his own private practice in Farmington, CT and then The Plastic Surgery Center, in Glastonbury, CT. He continued practicing medicine until the age of 85.
A long-time resident of South Windsor, CT Bruce loved being a "Gentleman Farmer" at his historical home on Old Main Street, East Windsor Hill, caring for his long lived Welsh Pony and over the years numerous Collies, Scotties, Norfolk terriers, and Welsh Corgis. He was happily a member of The South Windsor Rotary, the Historical society, and his membership at the First Congregational Church on Main Street brought him many hours of enrichment and joy.
Sharing his love of the water and boating, Bruce was most happy with his children at the ocean front property he built at Ocean Point, East Boothbay, Maine. Although he is gone, his love of family, his strong work ethic and determination to succeed will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Bruce was predeceased by his son Robert Bruce Burnham. He is survived by his sister Beverly Hannett-Price of Birmingham, MI, sons Gordon Coscina and Douglas (Kristina) Coscina of Ellington, CT, James (Melissa) Burnham of Colchester, CT, Scott (Christi) Burnham of Clinton, CT, daughter Lainie (James) Siegenfeld of Hewlett, NY and Holly (Adam) Ysasi of Pawcatuck, CT and 6 grandchildren Hayley, Nicholas, Emily, Charlotte, Isla, and Owen.
His family will receive friends on Friday January 17, 2025, from 5-7pm at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd, South Windsor, CT 06074. Funeral service will be Saturday January 18, 2025, at 10am at the First Congregational Church of South Windsor, 993 Main Street, South Windsor, CT 06074. So sorry to hear of the passing of this wonderful dedicated doctor!
I remember him from Hartford Hospital Pathology Department and had referred patients to him in the past.
May he rest in God's love, peace, and enlightenment.
