David W. Papp

David W. Papp, 77, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Pamela (Nicholson) Papp died peacefully on Thursday January 9, 2024, at Manchester Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. David was born in Hartford, CT, on May 28, 1947, son of the late Albert and Patria (Rocheleau) Papp.
David grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of Bulkeley High School. He went on to attend the Backus Hospital nursing program for a short time. David enlisted and served our country during Vietnam with the U.S. Army. Upon returning from the service, he joined the CT Air National Guard and continued to serve for 25 more years.
He met and married the love of his life, Pamela Nicholson on October 25, 1969 and together they settled in South Windsor where they raised a family. David went to work in telecommunications with SNET in 1969. In the early 90's he left and joined the Farmstead Telephone Group and worked his way to manager. He then started his own company called Telcom Connections which he operated for 10 years.
David was a volunteer firefighter with the South Windsor Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, where he achieved the rank of Deputy Chief. He also served as a Hartford County Fire School Instructor for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish and ski. He collected model fire trucks and Lionel trains. In his younger years he volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Master with SW Troop #186. He is a member of American Legion Post #133 in SW and the SW Landowners Association.
Along with his wife of 55 years, Pamela, he leaves his sons, Ryan Papp and his wife Susan of Elkton, MD, and Timothy Papp and his wife Heather, of South Windsor; his grandchildren, Seth Papp of Baltimore, MD, Trevor Papp and Marissa Papp both of South Windsor, and his siblings, Brian Papp and his wife Anna of Hartford, and Elaine Willett of Exeter, NH.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 1-3 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Memorial Service will follow in the funeral home beginning at 3pm. Burial will be private.
