It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather on Monday, August 18, 2025 after his courageous battle with colon cancer. Whenever George was asked how he was feeling, or was he in pain, his reply was always "I'm fine."
George was preceded in death by parents John and Mary Papp; brother and sister-in-law John David and Barb Papp.
He leaves to mourn his passing by his best friend and wife of 47 years, Judy; son George Michael (Lauren); daughter Jennifer and four precious grandchildren, Jakob, Brooklyn, Lucas and Tacker. He also leaves special niece and goddaughter Stacey Papp Braun and family, niece and nephew Cheryl and Tom Fabik, sister-in-law Nancy Noe and niece Karen Noe, and many other nieces and nephews and greats. He leaves cousins Elaine Papp, Janet and Bill Sikute and many more cousins. Father Michael Tripka and Bobby Tripka. Finally George leaves his beloved four foot Max. They were inseparable. Max misses his "Dad" very much.
George came from a very large family. His mother was one of eleven siblings. Her parents came to the States from Czech Republic in the early 1900's. The whole family lived in the same area of Akron.
George grew up in Firestone Park, graduating from Garfield in 1966. He never missed a class re-union. He kept in touch with many classmates, some going back to kindergarten, Casey, Danny & Roz, to name a few. After high school he attended Akron U. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1967 to 1973. George worked over 26 years in the billing department at the B.F. Goodrich Tire Co. where he met the love of his life, Judy Brooks. They married in 1978. After retiring from Goodrich, he worked in the grounds depts. at Akron U and the City of Cuyahoga Falls. He said he would never sit behind a desk again.
George was a kind and gentle man. He was always ready to help those who needed it. He drove neighbors to work, the bank, grocery stores, Dr's, anywhere they needed to go.
George had many loves. He loved the outdoors, feeding the birds, ducks and deer, and anything else that wandered through his yard. He loved beer, football (St. Louis Cardinals) and thoroughbred horse racing, Judy not so much, but through the years she learned to enjoy these as well, especially the beer, right Tom?
George's greatest love was for his family, both past and present.
He was always very active with his children's activities, helping with little league baseball, basketball, soccer, Indian guides and more. He volunteered at their school, chaperoning field trips, class picnics, whatever they needed.
George was all of this and so much more.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Summa, the Hospice team, and Dr. Roseanne DiLauro and her staff for their care and sincere concerns for George.
Judy would also like to thank her family and friends for their love, kind words and prayers during this most difficult time in her life.
Today I am saying good-bye to my best friend the one that I dreamt with, the one that I laughed and cried with, the one that I loved, the one that I lived for.
