Edward C. Atkinson

Edward "Ted" Atkinson, a lifelong resident of Rushland, PA, passed away peacefully on his farm on May 29, 2025, at the age of 90.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellen E. Atkinson, and is survived by his children: Beth and her husband Bill, Jeff and his wife Barbara, Sharon and her husband Ed, and Gail and her husband John; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joanne.
After graduating from Hatboro-Horsham High School, Ted served in the military and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning to Rushland, he married his high school sweetheart, Ellen, and they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage.
Ted served as postmaster in Washington Crossing and Jamison, PA, for 30 years, where he was known for his welcoming smile and kind demeanor. In his "retirement," he went on to work as a legislative assistant and later held a 25-year tenure with the Bucks Intermediate Unit. Outside of work, Ted could always be found tending to his fields and farming the land he loved.
Deeply committed to his community, Ted was a 45-year member and past President of the Doylestown Lions Club. He was also actively involved with the American Legion, the Bucks County Farmers Association, and served on numerous boards, including the Warwick Open Space, Historic and Planning Board, and the Bucks County Bicentennial Committee, just to name a few. One of his greatest sources of pride was his 30 consecutive years of participation in the annual Christmas Day reenactment of George Washington's Crossing of the Delaware.
Ted had a zest for life and adventure. He enjoyed skiing in Europe, spending time at his vacation home on Long Beach Island and making cherished memories with family and friends. He especially loved being with his grandchildren-attending sporting events, graduations, and nightly games of Rummikub.
Ted's family will receive condolences on Thursday June 5, 2025 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 East State St., Doylestown, from 9:30 am until his Memorial Mass at 10:30 AM. His interment will be private.
